was an American zoologist, primatologist, and anthropologist who undertook an extensive study of gorilla groups over a period of 18 years. She studied them daily in the mountain forests of Rwanda.
Her 1983 book, Gorillas in the Mist, combines her scientific study of the mountain gorilla at Kariosoke Reaserch Center with her own personal story. It was adapted into a 1988 film Fossey was murdered in 1985; the case remains open.
In his 22 years of study with gorillas, Fossey met and fought the activity of poachers who were carrying the species of the mountain gorillas to extinction. This fight he created many enemies, and you suspect that was the reason for his murder in 1985
His work contributed significantly to the recoveryy of the gorilla population and the demystification of his violent behavior
Fossey skull had been split by a panga, a widely used tool by poachers, who had confiscated from a poacher in previous years and hung as decoration on the wall of his living room next to his bedroom
